President Leonel Fernández has issued a decree to lift restrictions on real estate ownership by foreign investors as well as to protect their inheritance claims on property. This is part of a series of measures to promote foreign investment in the Dominican Republic.
Developers have been encouraged by excellent investment returns, as property values in resort areas have shown a steady increase in recent years. The Dominican Republic is a stable democracy providing numerous fiscal incentives for investors, including a 10 year tax free status on capital gains. Both American and European investment groups continue to invest in major resort and marina developments, as well as beachfront condominium projects.
